A British call centre which sends employees to New Zealand to cover night shifts in the UK says it will create more than 100 jobs in 2014.
The BBC reports Moneypenny telephone answering service is appointing 30 people immediately, with the rest spread over the year. It already employs 300 people. It first sent personnel to Auckland over a year ago, as an alternative to having people in Britain do night shifts. Groups of four are there for around four to six months and take over from daytime staff in Wrexham when they leave in the evening.
“Even over the Christmas and New Year period when we would expect the phones to be quiet, we saw a 500% increase on the numbers of calls we were taking for the businesses … as compared to the same time last year,” said managing director Glenn Jackson.
The BBC reports the company says some of its new employees may also be sent to Auckland.
